The Archers were the writing/directing/producing team of Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger.  Not all their work of interest was under this banner – some came before its formation, some after.  Some in collaboration, some on their own.  All, though, were touched with the same spirit.

There are plenty of film artists who, by acclamation and common sense are more important – Ford, Hitchcock, Welles, Godard, etc.  Yet I’d not trade The Archers catalog for any one of those others.

Their arrow strikes the black, straight and true.
