When Basil Met Nigel #1

It’s been over 60 years since Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce last made a Sherlock Holmes film, yet they remain the very image of Holmes/Watson for a great segment of the public, including many who’ve never seen their films nor have any idea who they are. Guy Ritchie is currently making a “big” new Holmes film, and that’s as it should be – there ought to be at least one substantial effort at Holmes at least once a decade. The casting of Robert Downey and Jude Law in the parts suggests at least some chance of likemindedness with what I’d like to see done with the characters. And yet, I’d say there’s very little chance of Downey/Law dislodging Bas n’ Nige as the definite articles.
